"Nature As We See It"
An Exhibition of PHOTOGRAPHY by Members of the
COLOR CAMERA CLUB OF WESTCHESTER
Sponsored by the WESTCHESTER ARTS COUNCIL
The GRAND BANKING FLOOR MARCH 15 - APRIL 7, 2007
Curator: MILTON ELLENBOGEN
Our exhibition echoes a point in the evolution of photography where the medium is evolving
into something more far reaching than it was. By this we mean the evolution from traditional
film based photography and darkroom, into an ever expanding world of digital image capture
and subsequent computer based manipulation. The new technologies allow an almost limitless
range of expression. Reflecting this, our exhibition bridges the two worlds and begins to mirror
the future.
From classic black and white
representational images to impressionistic or surreal and fantasy
images, we embrace the future while grounded in the principles of art and design of the past.
Nature is where artists have always drawn inspiration for creative expression. As individuals
we are attracted to different aspects of its boundless possibilities.
Our exhibition, "Nature as we see it" is a celebration of what each artist finds compelling.
Happily this spans a wide range of natures' choices.
Some are focused on individual organisms such as birds, insects, or flowers. Others delight
in landscapes and the interplay of light and shadow at a moment in time. There are also those
who begin with a natural image then transform it radically, often into abstraction.
But, whether we look at the intimate detail, or the grand scheme, we are all united in
celebrating this wondrous gift. We hope you enjoy the diversity of our interpretations.
