Competition Information

Monthly Slide Competitons:

There are three competition classes: C for beginners, B for intermediate, and Salon for advanced. Each member may enter three slides. The pictures must have been taken in the last five years. A guest judge evaluates each slide for interest, composition, technical competence, and impact, and assigns a score ranging from one to ten points. After scoring, the judge chooses from among the top 20% of the entries, slides for Honorable Mention or Award ribbons. In each class, cumulative scores for the season are compiled to determine winners of the First, Second, and Third place medals. Slides receiving Award or Honorable Mention ribbons may not be entered in any subsequent monthly or special assignment competition.

Special Assignment Slide Competitions:

These encourage members to try different types of photography. These competitions are part of monthly competitions. The scores received in these competitions are combined with the scores from the monthly slide competitions for one total score for the year. Slides must have been taken since January 1, 2006.

Print Competitions:

With CCCW's successful introduction of Print Competitions in 2002/2003 the club is again scheduling three competitions for 2005/2006. Members may submit up to three prints - black and white or color, standard or digitally printed, enhanced or not - per competition. Classes B and C will compete as a class; Salon will be a separate class. Guidelines are available.

Slide of the Year Competition:

All Award and Honorable Mention slides from monthly competitions are eligible for the Slide of the Year Competition at the Annual Dinner in May. A medal and two Honorable Mentions are awarded in each class; slides are judged by a panel of three guest judges.

Print of the Year Competition:

All Award and Honorable Mention prints from the three competitions are eligible. A medal and two honorables are awarded for each class. See current guidelines for additional details.
